The average per capita income in the United States is
$33,050 [in 2002 it was $36,214]. That is the average (the mean).

Most statistical studies you see report the median per capita income as $46,000. It sounds better. The median, however, is the half-way point and not an average. It means that 50% of the people earn below $46K and 50% earn more than $46K. That's a big difference and it doesn't address how far below the $42K or how far above the $42K.

If a U.S. citizen's portion of the country's debt is $30, 000, that means that there is only $3,050 left to live on.

the point behind all of this?

How many of us have a bank that will let us write checks to pay bills if we are $10 trillion dollars overdrawn? Or for $5.00 for that matter.

do you think that George W has to pay the bounced check fee that banks charge?

just asking...
