Patriotic Retirement - This Would Work:

This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I thought this was the BEST idea. I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr.President,

Patriotic retirement:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force;
pay them $1 million a piece severance with stipulations:

1) They leave their jobs. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2) They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3) They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage- Housing Crisis fixed.

All this and it's still cheaper than the "bailout".

this sounds too simple. Well, maybe simple is what is needed. All of the experts, like Krugman, have their talking points that I bet are there just so they don't lose their jobs. However, they really haven't been doing their jobs, have they?

found this over at BETTER PROJECTS. it reminds me of a lot of things - the war, the economy, the election, the government, etc, etc, etc...., but most of all it reminds me of where i used to work - in schools...





on my desk in my office, i had a miniature orange traffic cone that said,

Getting anyone to do anything around here is like trying to herd cats.

it's impossible to herd ONE cat let alone a... what do they call a group of cats? i know whales swim in a pod. hmmmmmm?

WARNING FROM THE MIDDLE EAST

This morning, from a cave somewhere in Pakistan, Taliban Minister of Migration, Mohammed Omar, warned the United States that if military action against Iraq continues, Taliban authorities will cut off America's supply of convenience store managers, and possible candidates for President of the United States.

And if this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by Dell and AOL customer service reps., and then Motel 6 managers.

i still have my typewriter in the back room. it cost over $600 when i bought it back in the 80's! i'm hoping that some day it will be worth more as an antique.

i have some typing habits that i just can't get rid of from using it. for example, if i make a typing error, i will hit delete all the way back to the error instead of just putting the cursor next to the incorrect letter, and i've been using a computer from the time of the Apple II.

some habits are just too hard to beat. like the clock in the kitchen. it was on the same wall for 47 years. when i remodeled the kitchen 5 years ago, i had to move it. to this day, if i'm in the kitchen and want to see what time it is, i still look first at that wall.
