if the mcpains are saying that you can't trust Obama because of his past work relationships, connections and donors, i'm in trouble with the mcpains also.

i spent time in the late 1960's not only supporting the anti-Vietnam War movement, but spent time with the brothers Daniel and Phillip Berrigan, who were Jesuit priests at the time, at a national Newman Center's convention in 1967. the Berrigans are the ones who led a lot of the anti-war protests and Phillip even poured blood (his own and animal) on files from a draft center.

oh, my...

one of the biggest regrets in my life is that i wasn't in Chicago for the 1968 Democratic Convention to help. i was at the 1968 Newman convention at Rutger's University that week. we watched television coverage screaming, swearing and hollering at it. the nuns and priests with us said nothing about our behaviour. they just prayed a lot extra for us - and to end the war...


as far as my personal thoughts on Bill Ayers? he was involved with the anti-war movement; something with which i sympathized and supported in various ways. i did not and do not now agree with his tactics. i spent too much time with a philosophy professor who studied and worked with Ghandi and with others who believed in non-violent protesting.

non-violence, in my mind, is the best way to make lasting change. don't get me wrong though. anger is allowed; violence is not.

Cops: Man threatened voter officials over tardy registration card

OCTOBER 8--Angered by a delay in the receipt of his voter registration card, a Louisiana man today threatened election officials, claiming that he urgently needed to cast a ballot to "keep the nigger out of office," according to police. Wade Williams, 75, was arrested this morning on a felony terrorizing charge after allegedly calling the Registrar of Voters and warning that he would come to the state office and empty his shotgun unless he got his registration card. Using profanity and racial slurs, Williams told a state official "about needing to vote to 'keep the nigger out of office," according to an Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office affidavit, a copy of which you'll find here. Though the document does not name the candidate to which Williams is so violently opposed, it seems likely he was referring to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. After being arrested at his Monroe home, Williams was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center, where the below mug shot was snapped. En route to the jail, he "continued his 'tirade' about niggers and also stated that he had a shotgun, but had it hidden at his residence," reported Lt. Michael Judd.

The man is blatant and more honest than McCain and Palin are. They are trying subtly to objectify Senator Obama. They are pandering to the fact that people in this day and age know that it is not acceptable to say out loud what they think when it comes to prejudice, whether it be racial, ethnic, feminist, sexual orientation, or others.

Though I despise what Wade Williams said, he was honest. Mcpain is not, and what they are doing to hide it is attack Obama for his honesty, trust and past. It's a tried and true practice that goes back millenia.

John McCain + George Bush = Al Gore + Bill Clinton...

just before falling asleep last night the similarity hit me.

in 2000 the ever-moral Al Gore basically refused to allow Bill Clinton to campaign for him. [a very large mistake in my opinion.]

in 2008 John McCain is not letting George Bush campaign for him.

both men fear/feared the influence of a negative slant their campaigns might have/had by using help from Bush and Clinton.

to not use two of the most successful politicians in recent history was a shame in former case and for the best in the present case.

let's hope that this helps McCain from being elected.

McCain's mortgage shopping spree...

So, I've been looking around most of the day to get a definitive explanation of the new mortgage plan that Mr. McCain touted last night. [He says he said it first, but it is part of the Tsar's just passed rescue, and Obama talked about it a couple of weeks ago as well as others - both Republicans and Democrats.]

When you go to the Mcpain website it's like walking one of the old British maze gardens to find something other than give us money in it. The Washington Post, the New York Times, and many other media members had stories. They were all fairly accurate but not that easy to understand.

I finally found something over at MSNBC.com that is not just fairly accurate buy also uses one of McCain's main economic advisers as a source.

Under McCain's plan, the government would spend $300 billion to purchase distressed loans and provide new, fixed-rate mortgages. Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the Arizona senator's economic adviser, said the plan would help stabilize the plunging values of mortgage-backed securities that are at the heart of the crisis in the financial markets.

To do so, the government would pay the full face-value of the distressed mortgages, Holtz-Eakin said.

Under that scenario, the government could buy a $200,000 subprime mortgage on a home now worth just $100,000, give the homeowner a 30-year, $90,000 loan with a 5 percent interest rate, and essentially eat the $110,000 difference

Ok, do you understand what he is saying?

McCain wants to buy the mortgages for the amount that the bank or lending agency holds it, determine the new value of the house, and give the homeowner a new loan at the new home value.

ummmm... there's a little problem here. Who is really, really reaping the reward?

yep... the bank or lending agency. They made the big mistake of financing properties that they actually knew were inflated but wanted to get rich by playing all kinds of games and reselling and refinancing with each other. Mr. McCain wants them to get all of their money, thereby enriching the bosses even more.

What I think would be fair is to first determine the actual current value of a property and then tell the bank, "This is how much we are going to give you: the actual worth of the house. We are not going to be responsible for your bad investments. Take it or leave it. Eat your losses and pay the consequences with your investors."

Why should you and I pay for the mistakes? Where is Mr. McCain planning on getting the money? Should we just start using Chinese yaun (¥)? Won't he have to raise taxes to pay for it?

there are just too many questions, and i'm just asking...

Instead of an effort to safeguard taxpayers as Senator Obama has called for and the Frank-Dodd bill goes to great lengths to do, this plan takes from taxpayers to provide unjustifiable subsidies to financial institutions - even those who engaged in deceptive or outright fraudulent practices to induce people into homes they could not afford.

There has been a lot of talk around the web about the roles of Jim Lehrer, Tom Brokaw and Gwen Ifill during the last three debates and that they did not really ask clarifying questions after the candidates' answers and remarks.

It was obvious, but I wonder if this is NOT part of the agreement that is supposed to be page after page in length.

I also wonder that most of the restrictions in the document came from the Mcpains. They have a history of telling people that it's my way or no way. Palin is not going to do any more interviews, according to the campaign, and will not do a press conference, because the media picks on her and skews her image.

Why do I wonder?

Wasn't it the Mcpains that forced MSNBC to withdraw Keith Olberman and Tim Matthews as its anchors for the debate coverage? Weren't the two men told to tone down their rhetoric? There was talk that it really came from the old-school reporters who said that the two were taking things too far, but it certainly wasn't any farther than what Fox News does.

i mean, i'm just asking...

I didn't watch the entire debate, I had a HEDAC Board Meeting last night. I saw the talk on CNN for a little bit before we left the meeting and it didn't seem that the analysts, both those with political affiliation (partisan) and those who were media representatives (nonpartisan), didn't seem to be saying in their first response after the debate that John McCain did as well as he needed and wanted to do.

After I got home, I turned on CNN & MSNBC because they were replaying the debate. So, I switched back and forth watching parts of it.

My initial reaction was dislike for the smarmy "My Friend(s)" phrase McCain kept using. It was transparently pandering and unconvincing.

The rest of the parts I watched had McCain bringing up things that have consistently been proven false concerning Senator Obama by sites like FactCheck.org and the New York Times along with others. Yet, he continues to use them.

As an example, the reference to Senator Obama's connection to Freddie and Fannie. One of McCain's major aides was receiving $30,000 a month from one of the companies until it was discovered. There are others on his staff who also have/had connections to the companies - making lots of money. Obama didn't deny that he had some connection Fannie and Freddie. He reported that he brought up regulation a couple of years before McCain said it was his idea.

AmericaBlog had an article this morning citing the Obama Campaign displaying the 17 Lies they heard Senator McCain spout last night. The comments after the post have readers citing others. Check it out.

This morning, I heard the "That One" phrase. It just trickled off McCain's lips with no hesitation but with malice behind it. I can see the reason the pundits and media are grabbing on to it. It was rude to speak of someone not more than seven feet from you that you are in a debate with as if he weren't there. I also would propose that it had a slight racial undertone to it. An undertone that runs throughout the Mcpains. They are being as careful as they can be, but they are creating new racial epithets in their speechifying.

So much for being a "straight shooter" as he considers himself.

sadly, we are entering the smear portion of the campaign that uses Rovian tactics and will use everything in his playbook to scare the s*** out of people. the Mcpain campaign has even said they are going to speed up the message that Obama is not for America.

they know what they are doing. it worked for them in 2004. sadly, many people, and the older generation especially, will fall for it all. they feel that they have a chance at loosing everything and they look to keep what they have for their kids, their retirement, their savings, etc.

the Rovian tactic is to tell them such things as Obama will tax them and spend their money on others; Obama will weaken the security of the U.S. by getting us out of Iraq; Obama caused the credit crisis; or Obama is to blame for the inflated price of oil up. finally, they will tell people that he doesn't have the experience to be president, at the same time as McCain chose a V.P. candidate with absolutely no experience.

what they won't tell people is that the credit crisis was partially caused by the Tsar's meddling in Iraq, that the billions of dollars we send over to Iraq in any two week period would bolster Social Security and provide health care benefits for everyone in the country for years, that the amount already spent in Iraq was enough to rebuild every road, bridge AND school in the country, or that the U.S. does nothing more than launder the money that the Tsar borrows from China to send to Iraq.

mcpain hopes that the U.S. electorate is stupid. if you listened to pundits, on both the left and the right, it's probably the one thing on which they all agree, of course for different reason. the right because they can get what they want and the left because they don't understand how people can't tell the difference between two candidates.

i certainly hope they are both proven wrong on November 4.

personally, i am asking people i know who are saying that they just can't vote for Obama to stay home and not vote at all. a no vote is better than one against progress and change...

maybe, i need to put my own mantra, based on Hopi Native American lore and beliefs, that "When hope is gone, live is over." on a wider bandwidth...

the bottom line...

The McCain Plan to Cut Oil Company Taxes by Nearly $4 Billion

The centerpiece of Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) tax plan is two huge tax cuts for Ameri-can corporations. As president, McCain would cut the corporate tax rate from 35 per-cent to 25 percent and allow corporations to deduct immediately all of their investments in equipment and technology. Reducing the corporate tax rate alone would deliver a $3.8 billion tax cut to the five largest American oil companies, according to a Center for American Progress Action Fund analysis of those companies’ financial statements....

The McCain plan would deliver approximately $170 billion a year in tax cuts to corporations, including some corporations that are very large and profitable. Just one of the proposals—cutting the corporate rate from 35 percent to 25 percent—would cut taxes for five largest U.S. oil companies by $3.8 billion a year (see table below). The five corporations analyzed—ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Valero Energy, and Marathon—are the five largest oil companies as ranked by Fortune Magazine. All are members of the Fortune 50. you can replace Nixon with any politician that fits. for example, if Mcpain becomes president, his name would fit for anyone who votes for him.

i thought of this today because my Congressman, a Bushevik who pretends to be a Democrat - Bill Lipinski. voted against the financial bill today. [NO, i did not vote for him.] actually, i think Lipinski has voted more with Tsar George than Mr. McCain has, and that is reported at 90%!

McPain's new ad makes the point that Obama knows nothing about the economy, but it forgets the fact that John McCain has said that he knows nothing about the economy himself. His major adviser is Phill Gramm who's leadership in deregulating the banking and financial markets put us into the great mess we are in now. [You can view the complete ad here.]

It also mentions nothing about his own campaign manager, Rick Davis, whose company is/was a paid lobbyist for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to the tune of $30,000 a month bringing $2,000,000 to him. Well, that and also there are a number of other of McCain's staff members who worked to aid the two discredited mortgage companies. Last week Mr. McCain accused Obama of staying mum on the financial crisis while he kept changing his story. The economy is strong. The economy is in trouble. No regulation. Wall Street needs oversight and regulation.

Mr. Obama stated that Congress and Administration needed to work things out and it would be imprudent for either he or Mcpain to make it political. Oh, and Obama said this while he held a meeting in public to show he was not just taking a backseat with some of his financial advisers - Warren Buffett, Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, Former Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin, Lawrence Summers and Paul O'Neill, and Former Chair Of The Council Of Economic Advisers, Laura Tyson. Sort of difficult to question credentials like that.

Back to the ad:

In it, Mcpain focuses on Franklin Delano Raines, who is not one of Obama's adviser, though members of his staff have had conversations with Raines asking advice on some elements such as housing and mortgages. Both Obama and Raines say that there is no official advisory capacity. Of course, there are some questions about Mr. Raines work at Fannie Mae, and no one is denying that.

Of all the possible people that Mcpain could have brought into focus in the video, why did they pick Franklin Raines? I propose that it is very transparent. If you didn't see the Mcpain ad, here is a picture of Mr. Raines -

A friend sent me the link to this video about the distortions that the Mcpain campaign has been fomenting over. It's made up of actual ads that the Mcpains have been broadcasting.

"elitist" is the new racial slur...

Stop and think about it. The Mcpains are taking great pains to label Obama as elitist. This in spite of the fact that McCain is a celebrity whore, owns a lot of property, is married to a very rich woman who sells alcohol, and has a new supporter in Lady Rothschild [see the LA Times article Lady Rotschild Thinks Obama Is Elitist]. I have brought this up in a couple of other posts [it IS about race...; as of late...; it IS about race - part 2...].

After watching Bill Maher last night, I realized and am convinced that ELITIST is being used as the replacement term for UPPITY and one that white folk can identify better than uppity. It's so transparent.

One of the basest fears among older white people is that African-Americans believe that they will become or already think they are better than white folk. This is nothing new nor is it anything others haven't talked about. It can also be said about impressions of Jews that the white folk have. They hold to the Old Country beliefs that have been around for centuries.

The Republicans have always bartered on fear and racism. Willie Horton is a prime example. It may just have cost the Dems the election in 1988; at the least it added to it. The Repubs made a scary picture [to most white folk] of a man and turned it into caricature. The incident concerned Horton, who was on a Massachusett's furlough from prison program who twice raped a local woman after pistol-whipping, knifing, binding, and gagging her fiancé. He then stole the car belonging to the man he had assaulted, but was later captured by police after a chase. The subtle message? Do you want your wife or daughter to meet someone like this on a darkened street? Of course, Willie Horton was black.

They are doing it again. Only this time they are being much subtler. They think that by pretending that the American electorate is now smart enough to see what is happening fear will work again.

It will.

Maher said on his show last night that he didn't believe that the American electorate is smart enough to see through the b.s. and has repeatedly shown that for the last 30 years of elections. Andrew Sullivan, appearing on the show, said that they are smart enough to know. and see through it all. Maher's response, "You're not American."

The expression on Sullivan's face was priceless and he was speechless. He was coming from the point of view of a person who chose to become an American citizen and who cannot see the subtleties of our history from anything but books and not living it. To what he should be likening it is the centuries old conflict in Northern Ireland. With that he has experience. The situations are quite similar. Rather than color being at the base of the problem, it is religion.

Earlier in the show Sullivan said the key to Obama winning was telling five of your friends who are not bigots to get out there and vote. Maher said to him, "How do you know they are not bigots?" It caught Sullivan off guard briefly, until he stammered something like, "You know your friends." No, we don't!

I mentioned in my post, it IS about race..., of friends I have known for 40 years who said they would not vote for Obama because he is black. I was shocked. I never expected. this They are extremely intelligent and cultured people. They have been married for over 50 years. Maher's point hit home when he gave his response to Sullivan. We don't know.

but..., i am going to agree with Sullivan on one thing. we need to do everything we can to make certain that people do get out and vote.

even if we have to use the tactic that their vote is one against Tsar George, because Mcpain is actually worse! [that's for another discussion, i.e. rant, later]

Chris Matthews finally asked the question...

Where is the president? Why hasn't he been on television at 9:00 talking to the American people about what's going on with the economy and trying to assuage their fears?


I have been asking this question for the last few days myself.

Matthews also made the comment that Bush is hiding just like he did with Katrina.

I've been thinking that also.

One of my friends called me on Monday and told me that she had sold all of her stocks and bonds because she was afraid of loosing her retirement savings. She's already retired, so she has more to worry about. She asked me what I thought about what she did. What could I say? I told her that I was standing pat. Historically, the period before a presidential elections is tumultuous for the markets. Yesterday, she called her financial adviser and told her if the sale hadn't gone through, not to let it. Her adviser said that maybe her initial decision might be the best one. {She decided not to sell in the end.]

This is what is going on in the minds of Americans right now. They are scared. Hell, I'm scared. What control do I have? On paper, I lost over $20,000 in the last three days. My pensions will get me through the basics, but what if something catastrophic happens? And I don't have any kids. What about people with families?

There is another set of questions that need to be asked. Where is the money for Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, AIG and the others coming from? Most of the money Tsar George Bushanov and his Duma are using for the war in Iraq is coming from China and being sent directly to the Middle East. The United States has become nothing more than a money launderer.

Also...

How much of the reserves has been used with nobody's knowledge? Have they been raided? Has the funding of major programs been used for things other than what they are intended?

There are too many unanswered questions. What scares me more are the questions that haven't even been asked, because we don't even know what they are yet.

The election campaign is going nowhere. Neither side, as far as I'm concerned, is really addressing what's happening. Mcpain has flopped on all his flips. Obama has been drifting at sea for the last couple of weeks, trying to make an innovative primary campaign into what the liberal wing of the Democrats wants and afraid that maybe the beliefs he espoused won't work in a national way.


The way I'm thinking right now is that there is fear that there will be a Democratic president. There is fear that there won't be a Democratic president. When given a choice, the American electorate goes with what they know rather than what they don't.

Hey, it's time to s*** or get off the pot.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with fewer than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

If your husband is nicknamed "First Dude," with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.

here is what really needs to be the focus of the entire political process in this election to dispell the lies and disinformation that mcpain is fomenting.

These people know they are lying; they know that Tsar George lied for the last 8 years; and they know that no one pays any attention to it. They've been getting away with it and they believe that they will continue to get away with it. They decry dirty politics when they think the Dems and the Obama campaign are doing it to them. Remember, it's okay for them to do it though. [yes, i'm going to go back on my first sentence in this post.] Hence, all of the fuss over lipstick, all of the sanctions on Palin's background and family, and all of the talk about change when there is no real change in their talk.

McCain used the pig line on Hillary Clinton. No one said anything or made a big deal about it. The mcpain's utilize all of the rumors about Obama's background still hinting that he's Muslim. Finally, they deploy the defensive tactics of using Obama's focus on change and saying, "It was our idea first."

one more, and maybe the last thing about lipstick. i wonder if any Republican has ever tried putting lipstick on a pig? Something tells me that since they're not elitist they've never tried...

if you listen to the entire comment that Obama made when he used the line, he made absolutely no reference to Mcpain [the Palin part of Mcpain this time]. as a matter of fact the antecedent part of the comment, the part Mcpain's people are leaving out, leaves no doubt to what/whom he was referring.

OBAMA: Let's just list this for a second. John McCain says he's about change, too. Except --- and so I guess his whole angle is, "Watch out, George Bush, except for economic policy, health-care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl Rove-style politics. We're really gonna shake things up in Washington." That's not change. That's just calling some --- the same thing, something different. But you know, you can --- you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig.

Obama is clearly talking about the fact that McCain is promising the same thing that Tsar George has been doing for the last eight years but calling it change because he's going to do it instead.

and then the kicker immediately after:

"This is a guy who supported George Bush 90% of the time. What does that say about somebody's judgment that they agree with George Bush 90% of the time?...You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called 'change,' it's still going to stink".

the change Mcpain is talking about putting into play doesn't include how politics is played. it's still the same tactics used against John Kerry and others. it's attack off the issues; it's confound the voters; it's tell lies long enough you start to believe them; and it's "i will do anything to get what i want and f*** the American people."
