I realize that Obama consistently says that he was against the war in Iraq from the beginning. He used it again in the debate last night. The problem that I have with it, and also a big unanswered question, is that he was not in the Senate at the time of the original Iraq/War debate in 2003. He was still playing in Illinois.
I don't think that he makes it clear what he would have done if he had been in the Senate back in 2003.
Hindsight is always a great experience, but it never takes into consideration the what if scenario possibility. [yes, i know this last phrase borders on oxymoronic but, in a way, this election is a bit of an oxymoron, if you think about it.]
It's great for Obama to say he was against the war from the beginning, but he was not in the position to make any real decision like Hillary, McCain, etc were at the time.
I wonder if he wouldn't have had a different thinking when there might have been a real say to his words, if he had been a Senator facing the difficult decisions for real.
i mean, i was against the war from the beginning also, but i had no real say in the matter, and i'm really opposed to all war short of extra-ordinary efforts such as a all out invasion a la the movie Independence Day.
i'm still a hippie from the 60's at heart. surprise, surprise, i don't even think the government has the right to kill a person as punishment for their misdeeds...
i'm not just asking, i'm wondering...
