On this day 228 years ago a British redcoat is said to have come upon a Colonial farm, stumbled over a rock and fallen to the ground, at which point a Rhode Island Red started squawking and jumped on top of him. The farmer, upon hearing the alarm, announced, "Chicken catch a Tory!"
