after five hours of exploring it and using it for the first time I have only one thing to say
Wow!!!!!!!!!
this can really change computing for so many people.
I wasn't sure about getting one until a couple of days ago when I realized that most of the time I work connected and, even when I am working on other things, they have to be shared with others via email.
AND, though I primarily use a Macbook, this portability is unique.
With the addition of Pages as an app, the Apple word processing program, that i use all the time and convert to either Word documents or PDF for others to see, it suddenly dawned that it would work for me.
And it does!
One of the best features is being able to read newspapers that I read from around the world --- not to mention using it with FaceBook.

The Inquistr is reporting today, well, read their headline: EXCLUSIVE: Apple to launch $800 laptop
Bad news for Microsoft? Additional market share for Apple? The move on which Mr. Jobs has been working? Lots of questions.
What I know, since I have had AAPL stock for many, many years, is that while the market is down 324.50, AAPL is up 4.45.

According to the source, Apple retail stores have been given price sheets that list 12 price points for the new range, with prices between $800-$3100. Current lines only have 8 price points, 3 Macbooks starting at $1099, 3 Macbook Pros and 2 Macbook Airs. According to the source, retail outlets usually get the price lists 10 days before products hit the market. Technical specs for the new laptops were not included on the price sheet.

iPhone madness...
No, I'm not talking about all of the people who stood in line for the new 3G version, nor the problems with activation on the first day of sales, nor the update problems with the previous versions.
I'm talking about all the headlines in most all major news sources - papers, television, and radio - that focused on the fact that there were problems.
It happens every time Apple has problems with a new product of any kind. It's made into BIG news, as if it's spelling out the death of the brand.
Think! how many times do you hear about snafus by Microsoft? Hardly ever, compared to the vast amount of problems they seem to have on a daily basis. Do they consistently make the headlines?
No.
Does Microsoft's stock tank a bit each time?
No.
Does it take days or weeks for Microsoft to fix the problem?
Yes. In the case of Vista, it's still not fixed almost three years later.
Apple fixed all the problems by the afternoon yesterday. After trying around noon, I had version 2.0 of the software completely installed and working by 5:00 pm.
I've gone through this Apple scenario for, well, my first Apple was a II so you can imagine how long it's been.
As far as the stock, it went down $4.05 yesterday, but so did most other stocks. Some media said it went down because of the problems. Hell, I've watched the stock go down when they come out with a brand new, phenomenal product. It's Apple! People have this mindset that it is a toy company. If it weren't for Apple, think about this, there would be no Microsoft. Mr. Gates borrowed the whole idea.
Also, as far as the stock, I bought it at $17 and some change years ago. Even though it went down $4.05 yesterday, ending at $172.58 for the day, my investment has a increased 1000%!

Leopard leaps...
As usual, I had to get Apple's newest OS X incarnation - Leopard - instantly.
I have to say it not only is the best OS I've ever used but has taken care of a number of problems I was having with my Intel MacBook. The fans no longer run constantly nor at full speed when watching video. Safari has become completely stable and no longer quits when clicking on a PDF. The physical temperature has gone down considerably and longer leaves a red spot on my lap. It's faster and clearer. It's obvious that it was developed for the Intel based machines, even though, I think, it says that it will work with the last 12 generations of Macs. Sweet. [That part I'll let you know about after I install it on my other machines. I'm especially interested in what it will do on the computer I use for music, movies, pictures, etc. That will really put it to the test. Those things are power and memory hogs.]
The new features are also, after 24 hours making my work so much easier. I'm one of those who has multiple windows, applications and utilities open at the same time. Spaces has solved the problem of finding where I'm going easier. The new Dock feature called Stacks makes finding documents in frequently used folders so easy to find without ever going to a Finder window or list and forgetting where I was or what I was doing.
Cover Flow is one of the greatest things of all. It's a view of each document in a folder that you can see at the top of the window that is similar to the iPhone and iTouchPod that allows you to determine if the document you want is in fact the one. at the top of the window, over the list of documents, is a flowing of all the folder's contents. If you think you see the one you're looking for, rather than opening up the application, you merely hit the spacebar and a full image of the document pops out at you as it looks in the application. If it's the one you're looking for, you just double-click on it. Check it out:

i am sooooo happy with Leopard.
of course, it is purely for selfish reasons. not only because it solves lots of problems for me, makes working much easier, but because i have Apple stock that i bought years ago at $17. yesterday's close was $184.70!

NBC pulls out of iTunes...
NBC pulled out of the iTunes agreement with Apple over pricing. They want more charged for their shows! So what else is new?
So today they announce an agreement with Amazon.com's Unbox service -NBC in Deal With Amazon to Sell Shows on the Web.
HELLO!
I just looked at the Amazon.com Unbox website for NBC shows. THEY'RE CHARGING $1.99!
AND... instead of the $9.99 for movies, Unbox charges $14.99! Oh, yeah, you can rent the movie for $3.99, but what are the requirements? You can only use a PC; you have to download the Unbox video player; you have 30 days to begin viewing it and once you start 24 hours before it is erased automatically. Netflix is easier. Not to mention cheaper starting at $4.99 a month and you can keep the movie as long as you want and take as long as you want to watch it.
sheesh... maybe NBC is getting a bigger cut from Amazon.com but what are consumers getting from this? the shaft...

the trick to getting an iPhone...
I stopped in my local Apple store the other day because I needed to replace my Cube's power block. I asked the guys if there was any trick to getting a new iPhone any easier. They snickered and said,
